“On February 17th, 2009 the way that people watch television will change dramatically.”
On that day, analog signals to your television will end and digital signals will begin. What does that mean for you? That means viewers will be able to get a crystal-clear picture, better sound, and more channels. But in order to get all that, there are a few things you have to do at home.  First, take a look at your TV set.
“If you have an antenna or rabbit ears, you either need to buy a new digital TV set which can receive digital programming,” Jimmy Sanders with WNEG-TV explains.
Another option is to buy a DTV converter box like this one.  This will convert the digital signal into an analog format so that your old set can get a picture.
If you can’t afford the $80 price tag, the government has $40 dollar coupons to help cover the cost.
So what if you get your television signal through cable?
“They have nothing to worry about, because we’ve already got the equipment in place,” Derrick Addison with Northland Cable tells NewsChannel 32.
If your TV is connected to a satellite or telephone company television service you won’t have to do anything for the transition either.

Although we haven’t made the digital transition here at WNEG yet, we are planning to go digital by October.
At that time, viewers with analog TV’s, converter boxes, and DTV’s will still be able to watch NewsChannel 32.
But on February 17th 2009, NewsChannel 32 will go completely digital.
