For as long as she can remember, Elizabeth Mulkey has been around any and everything related to the Future Farmers of America program.
It all started when her father would take her along on home visits, livestock showings and collegiate FFA meetings.
“And I was always really excited and couldn’t wait for the time I would be old enough to actually be in FFA,” Elizabeth tells NewsChannel 32.
But long before that time would come, Elizabeth fell in love with pigs and started showing them at different events in the first grade.
“I really like showing pigs and that’s another thing people are kind of surprised about.”
Now an FFA member here at Stephens County High School, Elizabeth took her experience and won showmanship competitions with her pigs.  But when she got older, as most young girls do, she fell in love again.
“What I really love to do the most is public speaking,” Elizabeth explains.
And she’s pretty good at it too.  Elizabeth has gone to nationals and won two times.  At state, she’s placed first in creed speaking, extemporaneous speaking, and prepared public speaking.
These achievements and Elizabeth’s commitment to agriculture, in all its forms, are why her advisor, teacher, and father, Farish Mulkey has nominated her for this month’s FFA salute.
“I think Elizabeth has embodied what I think an FFA member should possess,” Mulkey says.
Elizabeth adds, “I’m really honored because I know a lot of great FFA members from Northeast Georgia.”
Even when she graduates in a few days, Elizabeth plans to take her love on to college and pursue a degree in Agricultural Communications at the University of Georgia.
“I think that combines 2 things that I really enjoy.  I’m crazy about pigs and I like communications.”

NewsChannel 32 recognizes an outstanding FFA student every month.
All the students are nominated by faculty at area schools.
Feel free to let us know who you think would make a great nominee.
