For seven years Becky Waters has made it her job, to find jobs for others.
Waters tells NewsChannel 32, “A job for every Georgian and a Georgian for every job.”
That’s her motto here at the Habersham Career Center and her mission? Well, that’s to put people to work as fast as possible.
Waters says, “A lot of people will come in here with a resume and they’ve had no luck in finding a job.  That’s the first thing we tell them, maybe you need to re-do your resume, update it, and get some kind of new focus.  Maybe the employer isn’t seeing what you’re qualified to do?”
Trained employees here can help you do just that, but what if you don’t have a resume started or just don’t know what you want to do?
Waters adds, “A lot of people don’t know what they like to do or want to do.  Say they’re in manufacturing and that closed.  Well, they’re at wits end and say I don’t know how to do anything else besides manufacturing. Well, they can take a profile assessment with our computers.”
That assessment could give you direction and help you understand what you’d be good at doing.
And since this process can be a little stressful, free workshops are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  There’s even a class on financial stress.
Another program that’s at your finger tips is called Georgia Works.
Waters says, “We will either approach that employer or you can to see if you would be able to train.  It would be at no cost to the employer.  You would work 24 hours a week for eight weeks.”
Now you can only use this service if you’ve been collecting unemployment for more than 14 weeks.
Another added bonus; you would earn an extra $240 in addition to that unemployment check.
So, if any of those resources interest you, check out a career center in your area.
People like Becky are eager to put you on the fast track to success.
For more information on these resources call the Habersham Career Center at 706-776-0811.
