The stage is set and the performers are ready.  In less than two days, 60 students will take to the stage - in what could be one of the last productions at White County High School.

For the first time in 12 years, these high school students will perform a timeless classic.  Once on the big screen and on Broadway, you can soon see “Grease” the musical in White County.

“We put in countless hours to work for this,” explains P.J. Daugherty, not just on the stage, but also behind-the-scenes.  The students use class time to practice and to build.

“I put them in committees: set design/construction, props, costumes, lights/sound, promotions and box office/concession,” the Drama Teachers tells Newschannel 32.

But, the production budget is small.  The students must rely on the community to help fund the production.  Ticket sales from week’s performance will pay back Gail Jones the $1800 she needed for get permission to do “Grease.”

“I thought maybe it was time to do a show that had that kind of recognition to bring in audiences,” says Jones.

And, she’s hoping to go out with a bang, since this is the last year of the Drama Department at White County High School.

“I think every time there are budget crunches, the Arts are the first to go.  And, that has certainly been true here,” sighs Jones.

Until these students take their final bows, the curtains will remain open.

The students will perform “Grease” Thursday through Sunday at White County High School.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and children.  Call WCHS for more information.  That phone number is (706) 865-2312.
