Scouting Report: Cedar Shoals Jaguars
Most high school football teams spend their summers figuring out how to replace last year’s seniors, but the Cedar Shoals Jagaurs have had to replace a lot more than their graduates. After last season 14 year head coach Scott Wilkins walked away from the team. There is a new head Jaguar in place and the new coach is concentrated on turning a group of individuals into a team.

The Clarke Central Gladiators graduated 21 seniors from last year’s team, so it’s needless to say that the red and gold will be depending on some fresh faces this season. But while the Glads will be young, their coach is still confident.

2008 will be the first varsity football season for the East Jackson Eagles. Head coach Frank Caputo and his team only played a few games last year, but they’re making the big leap this year.

Scouting Report: Commerce Tigers
The Commerce Tigers only lost five seniors from last year’s team, but one of them was do-it-all quarterback Reuben Haynes. So while the Tigers are bringing a lot of players back in 2008, they’ve got some big holes to fill.

After making a run to the second round of the class single-a playoffs last season, the Jefferson Dragons have been reclassified as a double-a school. Although the dragons will be playing different schools this year, they’re still gunning for old rivals.

Scouting Report: Jackson County Panthers
Jackson County has never been a football powerhouse, and the last few years have been especially rough. The Panthers have only won 4 games in the last 3 years and went winless last season. But, second year head coach Billy Kirk feels that last year was not a failure.

Scouting Report: Banks County Leopards
In year one under new head coach Blair Armstrong, the Banks County Leopards came up just short of a playoff appearance. But, the Leopards have a lot of talent coming back and Banks is primed for a playoff run in ‘08.

In Athens, it’s day one for the number one-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Practice began today on campus and it is the first time that the dogs have begun practice as the top-ranked team in the nation.

Scouting Report: Lakeview Academy Lions
The Lakeview Academy Lions have played junior varsity football for the past couple of years, but 2008 will be the first full season of varsity football. Head coach Matthew Gruhn doesn’t have huge expectations this year, but does want his team to compete.

The Madison County Red Raiders ended their 2 year playoff streak last year when they went 5 and 5, but head coach Randell Owens said before last season that he didn’t expect a lot out of his young team. This year, the Red Raiders have more experience and the coach hopes that means different results.

Leslie Dietrich recorded this video a year ago, after she says her 17-year old son, Karl, was punched in the mouth by a teammate on the Madison County football team. Leslie tells NewsChannel 32, Karl has dealt with abusive teammates on more than one occasion and so have others.
